Nic Seton

Chief Executive Officer

I’m really excited to be taking up the position of new CEO of Australian Parents for Climate Action. I’m based in Sydney. I have two incredible kids and an inspiring partner. And together we have a lot of fun exploring nature and playing together.

My background is in strategy and leadership roles for non-profit organisations campaigning for climate action. But since my son, Otis, came along, I’ve been seeing climate risk and impacts in a whole new way. He was only one when the recent drought hit, driven by climate change. The dust storms affected his lungs and we were in and out of hospital as he struggled to breathe. Then the 2019 Summer bushfires blanketed Australian towns and cities in smoke. There was nowhere we could take him to play. No trips outdoors. We watched his every breath, inhalers always on hand. That’s when I really started to feel what I already knew. The world I grew up in was gone. The world our kids will grow up in will be hotter and less stable as a result of human-induced climate change.

What we do now will decide the scale of the challenge our kids face. We can act now for a safe climate for all families. That’s why I’m passionate about this role. I get to work with a skilled and talented movement of people who are driven by their love for the kids in their lives.

I’m humbled by the passion and commitment of everyone who has been involved in Australian Parents for Climate Action. And I’m excited about what we’re going to do next. We're going to keep growing our numbers and building our influence so that governments and businesses know that parents across Australia expect them to implement climate solutions to protect all kids from climate harm.

Our parenting years are busy. We work hard at home and on the job. But they are also the most beautiful moments of our lives. Every action we take as parents creates happier, healthier lives for our children too. So thank you for taking action, working hard and for everything you do to make the climate safer for all. I look forward to working alongside you on our journey to securing a safe climate.
