In the last 12 months, Australian Parents for Climate Action have empowered dozens of parents to meet with their federal and state MP’s. Now we are offering the opportunity to you!

"My local state Member agreed to meet with me and gave me a whole hour of his time, during which I brought to him the Australian Parents for Climate Actions’s Solar Our Schools campaign. Solar Our Schools asks the state and federal government for solar and batteries in all schools and early childhood centres. It will create 7000 jobs in renewable energy nationwide, with money saved on electricity enabling another 4000 jobs for teachers - to help address our national teacher shortage. Plus, it will save millions of tonnes of carbon emissions.

I couldn't have expected such a warm and willing reception from a member of the Katter Australia Party on a topic like this, but the fiscal and employment benefits of this proposed scheme are too great not to get excited about. So, we now have an enthusiastic ally in a place we might not have thought to look.

It felt great to have such a positive and productive meeting with my local state member. He told me, outright, that the Solar Our Schools campaign was completely new to him and that he had never heard of such an idea. He loved the pragmatism of the campaign and appreciated that it is a scheme that is straightforward, free of ideology and shovel-ready. It was a great feeling to help bring this kind of awareness to a conservative politician and leave the meeting without having compromised my beliefs and values but also meeting the Member in a space of common ground and understanding. Even better was securing his motivating and excited support for our campaign!

I think that message is especially pertinent in an area like ours, where I'm not preaching to the choir - I'm actually sharing a message that may never have been heard by the ears of some of us locals." - Yolande Schefe, Atherton Tablelands QLD
