Ella is an accomplished grassroots campaigner and ex-policy advisor who is driven to help create more sustainable and fair futures with stronger communities who have more access to the mechanisms that drive change. She has successfully campaigned for more than a decade to put issues affecting parents on the agenda. This has included mobilising tens of thousands of people, persuading corporate, political and community decision-makers and driving awareness campaigns and media coverage.

Ella has worked in close partnership with service providers, policy experts, and people with lived experience to act on social justice issues that change people’s lives. Ella has used social media constructively to shape community conversation on complex issues and has used multiple strategies to keep these issues in the media spotlight. These strategies include leveraging Australian FOI law to highlight the ways campaigners can be targeted by internal government departments.

Ella’s most recent campaign targeted a new, punitive government program that penalised single parents. Ella ran the entire campaign with limited resources, entirely unpaid from her home. She convinced 50,000 people to sign her petition, raise three government inquiries, and achieve over 20 media articles, all while directly advocating for women subject to the program. Ella is well connected with her previous work in NSW State parliament where she was a key player in multiple portfolios and successful campaigns.

In February 2022 Ella and her eight year old daughter lost their home and everything they owned in the Lismore floods. This experience has increased Ella’s drive to make big policy changes and be the voice for people not being heard.
